One of the critical areas where the OLPC project is currently lacking are the number of various activities (applications) available for the X0-1. While the project's wiki contains a [list] of several activities which are currently being developed it quickly becomes obvious that more of them are needed for the laptop to become more useful. One activity that comes to mind is a VoIP (Voice over IP) client that would allow both the children and their family to make free phone calls to other VoIP enabled devices. The main goal of this "activity overview" project is to evaluate which activities are suitable for the X0-1. We therefore need to know which solutions have already been developed or are currently in development. It's also important to decide which are the most important activities that should be included with the platform when it launches. To that end we also want to support activity development on the X0-1 by contributing activities designed and programmed by OLPC Austria. With our own developments we also want to focus on supporting the X0-1 strong feature set such as the Mesh network, the built-in microphone and camera and the e-book mode.

Einer der wichtigsten Bereiche des OLPC Projekts, der bisher noch etwas zu kurz gekommen ist, ist die Entwicklung von „Activities“ (so werden die Applikationen auf dem X0 genannt). Es existiert zwar auf der offiziellen Wiki eine Liste mit Informationen über aktuelle Entwicklungen, allerdings wird hier sehr schnell klar, dass weitere Activities benötigt werden um den Wert und die Verwendbarkeit der Laptops zu verbessern. Eine der ersten Activities, an die man zum Beispiel denkt, ist eine VoIP (Voice over IP) Software, die es sowohl den Kindern als auch ihren Familien ermöglichen würde gratis Telefongespräche zu andere VoIP-Nutzern zu führen. Dies ist aber nur ein Beispiel und es ist das Ziel des „activity overview"-Projekts festzustellen ob diese und andere Activities sinnvoll sind und wenn ja, wie sie umgesetzt und implementiert werden können. Mit Hinblick auf den Launch des OLPC-Projekts ist es auch wichtig möglichst bald zu evaluieren welche Activities von Anfang an ausgeliefert werden sollen. OLPC Austria möchte die Entwicklung von Activities vor allem durch Eigenentwicklungen unterstützen, wobei hier ein besonderes Augenmerk auf die Unterstützung von Features wie dem Mesh-Netzwerk, dem Mikrofon, der Kamera und des e-Book Modus gelegt werden soll.
